Frequently
asked questions
What does "skill generalisation" mean in therapy?
Skill generalisation is when a child can use a skill learned in therapy (like a communication technique or a behaviour strategy) in different places (home, school, playground) and with different people (parents, teachers, friends), not just with their therapist. This webinar focuses on how to achieve this.
My child does well in therapy sessions, but I don't see the same behaviours at home. Why does this happen?
This is a common challenge! It can happen because the home environment is different, cues might be missing, or the skill hasn’t been practiced enough in varied settings. We’ll explore these reasons and solutions.
What kind of strategies will I learn to support skill carryover at home?
You’ll learn practical techniques like how to incorporate therapy goals into daily routines, use consistent language and cues, create practice opportunities, and reinforce positive behaviours effectively.
How important is consistency between home, school, and therapy?
Consistency is key! When everyone in a child’s life uses similar approaches and expectations, it helps reinforce learning and makes it easier for the child to understand and use their new skills across all environments.
When should I talk to my child's therapist about incorporating strategies into our home routines?
It’s best to have open communication with your therapist from the start! This webinar will guide you on how to effectively collaborate with them to integrate therapy goals into your family life and routines for better outcomes.
How do I join the webinar?
After you register, a unique joining link for the Zoom webinar will be sent to your registered email address closer to the event date. Please check your inbox and spam folder.
What do I need to attend the webinar?
You will need a stable internet connection, a device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) with speakers or headphones, and the Zoom application (or you can join through a web browser, though the app is recommended for the best experience).
Will a recording of the webinar be available if I can't attend live?
We understand that schedules can be busy. We will inform all registered attendees via email if a recording will be made available after the live session.
I'm not very tech-savvy. Is it difficult to join a Zoom webinar?
Joining a Zoom webinar is quite straightforward. You’ll receive a link, and clicking on it will usually guide you through the process. We recommend joining a few minutes early to sort out any potential audio or video settings.
